Here is Michelle Abbott a dear friend I have had the pleasure of getting to know. She is the author of a new release “Just Stay.” Michelle comes to us from the UK and it is my honor to host her and give her a warm welcome. Here is a piece that she wishes to share with you.
Flash Fiction
I thought I’d share some flash fiction I wrote ages ago. It’s not my usual style because it’s written in 3rd person, and it’s not romance
Suzanne washed her hands with the antibacterial soap, and used her elbows to turn off the tap. She dusted her hands with talc, and snapped on her latex gloves. Finally, she covered her mouth and nose with her surgical mask, and walked into the operating theatre.
She gazed at the body lying on her operating table, taking in his buzz cut and the defined muscles beneath his smooth skin. He looked like a military man, just as her dad had once been. She pondered the horrors he must have seen in battle. He was young, too young to die, but this man was lucky, she was the best surgeon in the hospital. Today, he would survive. The anaesthetist had done her job, he would feel no pain. She checked the monitor; his heartbeat was slow and steady.
“Scalpel, please nurse.” She gripped the instrument, reassured by the feel of the cold, hard metal against her palm. Droplets of blood formed on the man’s pale skin as she made the incision from the tip of his breast bone to the bottom of his ribcage. She was calm and collected, her movements precise; she’d performed this surgery many times before.
The operating theatre was silent except for the steady beat of the heart monitor. Unlike other surgeons she’d observed, who listened to classical music while they worked, Suzanne preferred to work without any distractions.
Her nurse adjusted the camera. She studied the image that had appeared on the screen. While the nurse kept a check on the man’s vitals, Suzanne quickly repaired the damage to his organ.
She fought back her need to sneeze as she began to close her incision, and took a moment to admire her stiches, which were small and neat. Her patient wouldn’t appreciate her artwork of course, nor would he know that she enjoyed sewing in her spare time.
She paused. His heart beat was erratic. Beads of sweat began to form on her forehead. He was going into cardiac arrest. She worked deftly but as she finished closing the wound his heart flat lined. “Nurse. Defibulator.” The nurse stepped back as Suzanne held the metal plates against the man’s chest. The monitor was emitting a continuous beep. This was not happening. She was not going to lose her patient. He survived through wars, she was determined he would survive her operating table.
She froze in shock as a pair of hands grabbed the man’s legs and yanked him from her table. “It’s my turn, you’re supposed to share,” Thomas screamed at her, his face red. With the action man held tightly in his little fist, Thomas skipped across the classroom making pwow, pwow noises.

Author Bio
Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person. She’s a self-published author who loves to write new adult romance about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl. She’s an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits 🙂 She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral.
