Blog 3- Lodestone (Witch-Hunt): Is Vengeance Ever Justified?

Behind the scenes of Lodestone (Witch-Hunt) with fantasy author Wendy Scott

Another theme I explore in Lodestone is the repercussions of vengeance.

Lodestone, weaves a tale between Lauren and Sabrina, born hundreds of year apart, but linked by blood and magic. Sabrina is the only one who can right the wrongs unleashed by Lauren, but Sabrina will have to sacrifice her future to fix the past. Is the price too high?

Excerpt from Lodestone (Witch-Hunt): Lauren

He scrutinized me for a long time. “Your kind doesn’t belong here. You upset the natural balance. I can’t grant you peace, but … if you have the will, I can give you vengeance.”

Me ears pricked up like a fighting dog’s. “Vengeance?”

His next words insinuated themselves inside me like a burning cancer. “Wouldn’t you like revenge on the witches?”

Hunger for retribution overwhelmed me senses, and I couldn’t restrain the eagerness in me tone. I licked me lips and begged, “How?”

He extended a hoof to me. “If you want to know, then come with me.”

Later, I would wish I hadn’t done what I did next, but I reached out and took his hoof, vowing that if I couldn’t have Adorabelle back, then vengeance would do.

About Shirley Harris-Slaughter

I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.

Wendy, it is never justified to seek vengeance! The damage is always twofold. It destroys the one seeking and the one sought. Thank you, Shirley, for coming in the last minute to fill in and to host Wendy. Enjoy your tour.
