About Shirley Harris-Slaughter

I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.

Thank you, D! My husband, Lee, just finished carving a surprise for our neighbor who is away on vacation. He had a tree that was leaning that they had to cut down due to some concern that it may fall on a car driving by. Another nearby neighbor filmed some of it. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snAsfQZETR0 – he’s carving a deer jumping over the fence. Lee doesn’t normally carve onsite anymore but he wanted to do this for our neighbors who are very special to us. Lee also has a website at leeschainsawart.com if you want to view some of his work.

Thanks, Kim. I enjoyed watching that…so much strength goes into holding the chain saw then maneuvering it around…I love that it was a deer leaping, too…what lucky neighbors you have to receive something so personal and beautiful! I will head over and check out more of his artwork!
