About the Author
I started out trying to write a decent enough manuscript but it was clear that my thoughts and memories were so scattered and so fragmented that it was almost next to impossible to write it all down so that it made sense. First mistake I made was in not documenting each occurrence as it happened. As a result a lot of situations were completely and utterly forgotten—until I was done and the book went to press; then the memories started flooding in. Obviously some of it was too traumatic and so I blocked it all out. I couldn’t believe that I had forgotten so much.
There was the stalker boyfriend who followed my every move and tried to isolate me from my family. I was divorced and trying to raise my son as a single parent. It had gotten so bad that it spilled over into the workplace. My girlfriends at work herded me through a side exit when they spotted him sitting in front of the building. I was mortified and scared.
And that’s as far as I’m going with that one. But it appears to be the start of another book doesn’t it?
I can’t believe where all the years have gone. You know how you hear the old folks say that no matter how old they are, they don’t feel it and are shocked when they look in the mirror. Well age has been kind to me because I look good compared to some of my friends. I forget how old I am until I look at them. I am very thankful for my health and wellness after all I’ve been through. Looking well is just a side bonus.
NEWSPAPER CHRONICLES
This story follows the fictional account of one character, Leslie Louise Allen, working at a major newspaper in Downtown Detroit. From her perspective on race; interactions of colleagues; circulation wars; new hires; layoffs and romantic encounters, she takes us on a harrowing journey thru the 70s and 80s when Detroit was a two-newspaper town.

Hi Shirley. Crazy, hot and living on the edge was one of the first books I read when I joined #RRBC book club. I read Newspaper Chronicles not too long after that. Both were really great reads. I’m sorry to hear about your traumatic experiences.

Lizzie, I was over at Ron Yates’ stop today and he talks about building women characters. Some people have described me as a strong woman but I never thought that worked. I almost had a complete breakdown. The strength was in choosing not to be the victim. Your description is spot on and I’m glad you didn’t use the term strong. For some reason I dislike the description.

Shirley, I understand about not feeling your age. Sometimes I tell my husband a story and say there was an older woman … and he usually laughs and asks whether she was younger than I am. Funny how we see ourselves and others. As to writing about your failures, I don’t think you need to feel responsible for stalkers!! It’s not your fault that they wouldn’t go away. Of course, you are Catholic and we girls were raised to believe EVERYTHING was our fault, as I recall. I’ve given that idea up!! Don’t let anything stop your stories. Happy Block Party!

Mary I appreciate your encouraging words on this horrific topic.I was a virgin for a long time and to be introduced to life this way was almost to much to bear. I vowed never to say anything about what happened to me because I had such a low self esteem. But God was carrying me some of the way and I got through it. I never dreamed that I would one day share some of it.

That must have been scary to have a stalker, Shirley. It is hard to remember things especially traumatic things. Guess it’s a blessing to forget sometimes. but not when you are trying to write about it. Enjoyed your post.

Denise, I still can’t believe I left out huge chunks of my memory. Its the craziest thing, and like you said, it doesn’t help when you are trying to write about it. I had a stalker ex-husband & boyfriend. So there was a lot of traumatizing going on. And I had no plans to write about it at all, so I was very unprepared to go down this road. Who wants to reveal their failures and be judged?
